May 2025 Prayer Letter

Dear Family and Friends,

Thank you for supporting us to minister to the people here in Thailand! We praise the Lord for the opportunities He has given us recently to share the good news of His kingdom. We’ve also participated in Run 4 Relief to raise awareness about the civil war and refugee situation in Myanmar. And Karl has continued to equip the future church leaders of Thailand through teaching both at Chiangmai Theological Seminary and at McGilvary College of Divinity.

On Feb. 13, 2025, two of our children (Caitlin and John) and I (Sun), joined international church Refuge Fellowship and ELM Pregnancy Center in an outreach to a local Thai elementary school called Baan Tong Gai which is about half an hour away from us. Besides sharing about the sanctity of life in the womb, we and 20+ volunteers also made gospel bracelets with the 150 participating elementary students. I was given the privilege of sharing the gospel in Thai as we added colored beads to a stretchy string: yellow (heaven), black (sin), red (Jesus’s sacrificial blood), white/ clear (forgiveness), and green (abundant life in Christ). Along with relay races, Bingo games, and lots of snacks, everyone had lots of fun. May the Lord do his mighty work in the hearts of the 150 students.

On March 7, 2025, Caitlin, John, and I again joined Refuge Fellowship and ELM Pregnancy Center in an outreach to another local Thai elementary school called San Pa Yang Witthayahan in an area called Mae Tang about an hour north of us. Being the only Christian there, the principal of the school wanted the children to hear the gospel for the first time. Once again, ELM shared about the sanctity of life in the womb and I shared the gospel in Thai  through the gospel bracelet craft, while the 100 students also played Bingo games, had relay races, and ate lots of snacks. About a week later, on March 15th, we three participated with Refuge and ELM to reach out to some 50+ construction workers in Chang Klan Construction Site Camp. These were very poor laborers from nearby countries such as Cambodia, Myanmar, as well as Thai hilltribe people. We had to make adjustments to our program because of the small venue, but we played games, had snacks, and shared about Life in the Womb. Once again, I had the privilege to share the gospel as we led the participants to make gospel bracelets with beads. We were able to give out some food and other essentials to the migrant workers. Since the children at the camp go to Thai school, they were able to communicate with some of the volunteers in Thai. However, most of the women didn’t speak Thai. Communication was a challenge, but praise God that one of the volunteers spoke the Shan language which enabled the participants to understand the gospel.  Embedded below is quick clip of Sun sharing the Gospel with the women (poor audio, sorry). On April 10th, Caitlin and I joined a small group of eight from Refuge and Elm to reach out to the women who work in the red light district downtown at a center run by Illumin8 ministry. Because it was an event around Thai New Year (mid-April), they brought their children with them.  We were surprised that the women and children looked no different than the people one would see at the local market. The women were homely (and somewhat frumpy) in their 30’s and 40’s and 50’s. Many of them were from the hilltribes. We did similar activities, and I shared the gospel in Thai while doing the gospel bracelet craft with the group of 50-60 people. What a privilege to share the good news with these people! Below is a picture of the gospel bracelets worn by a group of women there.

In early March, our family took part in the 21st annual Run for the Relief. The 5k run was to raise awareness concerning the victims of the civil war in Myanmar. There were over a thousand people there, from Thailand to Myanmar to the US, and more.

Thank you for your interest in what God is doing in Thailand, and in our family as we take part in God's work here.  At the end of last year, we shared in our prayer letter that we were undersupported heading into December and many of you responded generously enabling us to end the year at 100% support.  We are so grateful for your investment in us so that we can invest in the advance of the kingdom of God in Thailand and the edification of the body of Christ here.
