October 2008 Prayer Letter

Written by Karl Dahlfred on .

Dear Friends and Family,

Thank you for your prayers as we wrapped up our time in the States and flew back to Thailand.  We are thankful for our time to see many of you and to spend time with Karl’s family.

I am writing to you from the beach in Southern Thailand as we take a few weeks vacation before returning to our town of PhraBaht in Central Thailand.  Despite losses this past year, our family is feeling strong in general and are eager to see what God has for us as we get back into ministry in Thailand.   We are full of ideas and enthusiasm for evangelism and discipleship as we think about the opportunities to work in the PhraBaht area.

We look forward to seeing our neighbors again and continuing to build relationships and share the Gospel with them.  We look forward to meeting up with PhraBaht church members and Pastor Jarun to see how they have been and to see where we can go from here in church planting.  At some point, we will need to talk with Pastor Jarun about some issues affecting our working relationship in doing church planting.  We need clarity and mutual understanding about how we will move forward.

We are praying that the LORD would send to us Thai men and women who want to grow in their faith and learn God’s Word.  We want to have a hand in discipling them and helping them grow to maturity.  Not everybody wants to grow in their faith and not everybody is interested in studying God’s Word - even in the church.  For that reason, we are asking the LORD to send us people who have a spiritual hunger, who are teachable, and who are ready to learn who God is and what is His will for them.  We already have in mind some people who might  meet this description but we are often surprised by who wants to grow and who doesn’t.

In addition to local believers, we would also love to have more missionary co-workers who love God’s word, understand the sovereignty of God

in salvation, and are committed to evangelism and building healthy local churches.  Please pray for more workers for the harvest fields in Thailand, both for more missionaries and (even more so) for mature Thai believers.

Please pray for us as we renew relationships with believers and non-believers whom we know already and meet new people.  Pray for us as we make plans for evangelism in the coming months.  Christ said , “I will build my church” (Matt. 16:18) and we are trusting that God will give us wisdom, courage, and boldness in reaching out and in finding and equipping Thai believers to reach out with us.  Pray for a mighty work of the Holy Spirit among Thai people that many would hear the Gospel, be convicted of sin, and repent and believe.

Political instability continues to increase in Bangkok and we pray that God would be pleased to use social instability to change people’s hearts to behold the certainty, faithfulness, and truth of the God who created them.

Thank you for your prayers for us and for the Thai people.

by Christ’s grace,
Karl & Sun Dahlfred
