"Nine Marks of a Healthy Church" by Mark Dever PDF Print E-mail

English edition available from: Amazon 9Marks Ligonier Ministries
Thai edition available from: Tyrannus Center

One of the best books on the church today. Dever gives a positive prescription for building a healthy Biblical church that avoids trendy marketing and glitzy fads. Dever simply goes back to the Bible to show the reader what are God's priorities for the church from Scripture. Highly recommended.

"The Courage to be Protestant: Truth Lovers, Marketers, and Emergents in the Postmodern World" by David Wells PDF Print E-mail

Available from: Amazon

A well written analysis of what’s wrong with modern evangelicalism in America.  Readable and informative, Wells shows how much of modern evangelical Christianity has departed from the truth of Scripture in a desperate attempt to be relevant and keep people from leaving the church.  In the process, the truth of the Bible has been largely abandoned in practice, even if there is continuing lip service to the truths of the historic Christian faith.  A very helpful book in understanding why the modern church is the way that it is.

"Why We Love the Church" by Kevin DeYoung and Ted Kluck PDF Print E-mail

English edition available from: Amazon Aphrohead

“Why We Love the Church” is a winsome, Biblical, and extremely readable apologetic for why Christians should continue to love the church and be part of a local church.  In reply to those who say “We love Jesus but the church is lame”, DeYoung and Kluck admit that the church has not all gotten it right but we still need to love the Church, warts and all, since the Church is the bride of Christ for whom He died.  The authors challenge outlandish and exaggerated statements about the modern church and the first century church made by George Barna, Frank Viola, and Leonard Sweet (among others).  While the authors definitely have a position and make their case, they attempt to be fair to those whom they critique and do not engage in personal attacks.  Well worth reading, especially for those who are frustrated with church as they know it and are considering dropping out of traditional church for other spiritual alternatives.
